Colvá is a coastal village in Salcete, south Goa, on the west coast of India. Colva Beach stretches for around 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi), part of a beach consisting of about 25 kilometres (16 mi) of powder white sand, lined along its shore by coconut palms and extending from Bogmalo in the north to Cabo de Rama in the south. The Colva beach is very beautiful and has a stream flowing through it. Speckled with colonial style villas and broken-down fishing huts, the beach looks more stunning with a wide collection of concrete hotels, souvenir stalls and snack bars all around it.
Apart from the beach itself, the other main attraction for the tourists is the "Menino Jesus" statue at the local church of Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Piedade ( Our Lady of Mercy) founded in 1630. The church lies in the village square. The church in Colva is famous for its annual religious event-Fama of Menino Jesuse (Child Jesus)-since the 17th century. The predominantly Catholic community celebrates it on the third Monday of October every year. It is one of Goas most popular feasts and a big fair is held on the occasion at Colva.
Colva beach has one of the best amenities when it comes to beaches in the south. The area has a lot of hotels, pubs and restuarants to dine in which offer a nice ambience and delectable cuisine at reasonable rates. At the beach one can find a lot of shacks offering drings snacks and meals, albeit at a higher price. If you however walk towards the northern side of the beach, the area is quiter and the prices at the shacks more reasonable.
In the mornings around 10, local fishermen haul in their nets which they place out at the beach at around 8 A.M. Its a nice sight to watch the fisherfolk haul in the nets, sort the catch and send it to be sold to Margao.
